Handmade Mexican ceramic tile, including traditional Talavera tile, is known for its natural variation in color, texture, and pattern.
These variation levels (V1–V4) and crazing characteristics (C1–C3) are essential to understand when selecting handmade tile for kitchens, bathrooms, and decorative installations.
Tile Variation
Handmade Mexican ceramic tile is valued for its rich character and natural variation. Slight to moderate variation is expected in all ceramic tile. Differences in color, shade, texture, and pattern are inherent to the handcrafted process and make each piece unique. Tile size may vary by up to 1/4 inch.
Colors may appear differently on computer screens. We recommend ordering a sample before making a final selection. Variations in size and color may also occur from shipment to shipment, and additional tiles ordered at a later date may not match the original order exactly.

Crazing in Ceramic Tile
Crazing refers to fine, hairline cracks that may develop in the glazed surface of a ceramic tile. This is an inherent characteristic of certain handmade and decorative tile finishes and is not considered a manufacturing defect.
Crazing may be present prior to installation or develop gradually over time. These fine lines may become more pronounced, especially when a contrasting grout color is used or in areas exposed to moisture.
